Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the past month, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four early-game chances in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
