Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
